This wine region lies between the Rhön Mountains and the Tauber valley, the Spessart and the Steigerwald mountain ranges. Most of the vineyards lie alongside the Main river. One highly recognisable feature of Franconian wines is the Bocksbeutel, a short-necked round bottle and the oldest known ancestor of this characteristic bottle dates from around 1400BC! In general Franken’s climate is Continental marked by cold winters and hot summer, but in the valleys along the Main the microclimate is more Mediterranean with perfect conditions for wine production.
