The WineBarn hosted our Annual Portfolio Tastings in Cambridge and Oxford this week.
Our team were delighted to warmly welcome both returning and new wine stewards, that were eager to explore the rich diversity of German wine, to these well-attended events. Our MD Iris Ellmann (right) and Business Administrator Elliott Afentakis (centre) were also honoured to have Kerstin Kranz (left) from Weingut Kranz - a family-run winery located in the Pfalz region of Germany - support us at these events.
With over 20 years of supplying German wines and hosting tastings at the iconic King's College in Cambridge and Christ Church College in Oxford, we were excited to present a fresh selection from our portfolio. Guests had the chance to explore a curated selection of sophisticated wines, including sparkling Sekts, elegant Spätburgunders (Pinot Noirs), exquisite vintage Rieslings, mineral-rich Silvaners, food-friendly Weissburgunders (Pinot Blancs), and decadent Dessert wines.
Both of these prestigious colleges, steeped in history, offered a stunning backdrop for the events. The colleges not only acquire and store wines for feasts, special occasions, and high table events, but also provide a point of sale where wine and spirits can be purchased by fellows, students, and staff.
Kerstin guided guests through the winery’s fascinating journey, which she runs with her husband Boris and son Xaver. She offered insight into the unique climate and soils that define Kranz’s wines, as well as the cellar techniques that elevate their craftsmanship. Specialising in Riesling and Spätburgunder, Kranz is a proud member of the VDP - the association of Germany’s elite wine producers, a true mark of quality. Kranz began bottling and marketing its wines in the 1970s. Today, the family cultivates 25 hectares of vineyards, with a balanced mix of 60% white and 40% red grape varieties, and have been producing organic wines since 2013.
