Wine of the Month: Jürgen Ellwanger's 2024 Trollinger Schorndorfer dry

Wine of the Month: Jürgen Ellwanger's 2024 Trollinger Schorndorfer dry

Trollinger - the Beaujolais Nouveau Alternative

Trollinger is the quintessential light, fresh, and quaffable German red - perfect for a sunny spring afternoon.

The Wine: Jürgen Ellwanger's 2024 Trollinger Schorndorfer dry ruby red is light in body and has an inviting bouquet of strawberries, raspberries and cherries, as well as subtle floral notes.
On the palate, it's light, refreshing and characterised by its tannin content and lively acidity. Red berry flavours are accompanied by a gentle earthiness and herbal undertones.

The Vineyard: The Schondorfer Trollinger originates from a high quality vineyard with VDP.ORTSWEINE classification - a true mark of excellence. The unique terroir and cool climate there give this dry red wine its expressive character and abundant elegance.
2024 was a classic year, which allowed the grapes to ripen well, whilst still retaining their acidity and creating a perfect vintage.

The Vinification: This Trollinger was a mash-fermented, and the wine then matured in 100 year old wooden barrels.

Alcohol: 12,0% vol.
Res. sugar: 0,3 g/l
Acidity: 4,9 g/l

About Jürgen Ellwanger Winery

Nestled in Württemberg, the Jürgen Ellwanger winery is renowned for producing exceptional Riesling, Lemberger, and Trollinger wines that truly express their origin.
Since 1514, the Ellwanger family has cultivated vines with dedication, until Gottlob Ellwanger founded today's Ellwanger estate.

Under Jürgen Ellwanger, the wine estate steadily grew to cover 26 hectares which are spread over five towns within the region. Each vineyard has a distinctive terroir, which differs in soil and micro climate, making every wine unique.

Today, Jürgen's sons Felix (who features in this video) and Joerg run this multi-award winning winery together. For Ellwanger, tradition is an obligation, and as such, they still use traditional cellar processes such as mash fermentation. However, the spirit of innovation and thinking outside the box are also part of their philosophy.
