In Walporzheim the Ahr valley starts to get more nerrow. The hillsides become steeper and they are shaped as terraces, which constitute the vineyards ancient reputation of being one of the best in the region. The name of the vineyard side goes back to the Romans who settled near Walporzheim and cultivated wine and herbs in the Kräuterberg because of the good climatic conditions. The soil consists mainly of slate and greywack decomposition stone. The steepness and the intense direct sunlight create a nearly Mediterranean microclimate. The wine are powerful, rich with a typical herb aroma.
Vinification: Harvest of the fully ripe grapes end of October 2016 with yieldof 25 hl/ha gentle treatment, ageing in Barrique for about 16 months (70% new oak).
Complex with with ripe aroma of different fruits like blackberry, raspberry, plums and dark chocolate with spicy herbs, liquorice and roasted aroma, well balanced tannin structure, elegant and complex, good potential.
