Wine: On the nose the Kalkofen shows typical Riesling aromas such as citrus and stone fruit, as well as some chalky notes. The fruit is very fresh, with bright nuances of peach and fresh apple. On the palate, this Riesling Grand Cru has a gripping acidity with a fine minerality.
Vineyard: Bassermann-Jordan's Kalkofen-based vineyard is in the Pfalz region of Germany. The oldest part of their vineyard was planted in 1968. It is from these vines, the grapes for their "Grosses Gewächs Kalkofen" originate. The vineyard is slightly inclined and south-facing, providing good growing conditions.
Viticulture: The grapes were hand selected and gently pressed. Bottling took place in July, until then the wine remained on the lees to give it more depth and complexity.
