Chardonnay from the Ihringer Winklerberg site is marked by an extraordinary minerality that only can accur on a soil of weahtered volcanic rock. This gives the wines in addition to their power, elegence and finesse. This wine had been fermented in barriques and was aged in small French barrels.
The juicy fruit of apricolts, yellow pears and kumquats is backed by a very noble vanilla scent and hints of spices, accompanied with a discreetly creamy touch and distinctively smoky oak flavours. Rich but nevertheless transparent aroma on the palate with hint of candied tropical fruits. True Grand Cru Style with remarkably mineralic backbone and gorgeous acid structure. The rich and aromatic finish reminds of apricot tarte and star fruit with fine spiciness at the end.
Food recommendation: An ideal wine along with roasted or grilled fish, hearty roasts or Meditarranean fare. Equally good with various cheeses.
