Meyer-Näkel 2016 Neuenahrer Sonnenberg Spätburgunder Grand Cru Dry German Wine

Meyer-Näkel 2016 Neuenahrer Sonnenberg Spätburgunder Grand Cru Dry

Regular price £65.55

The name Sonnenberg (sunny mountain) speaks for itself. Its favourable south-facing slopes benefit from high sun intensity and an advantageous microclimate. The soil is a stoney conglomerate of slate and greywacke with a high percentage of loess and loam. The Pinot Noir of this vineyard is voluminous and full bodied maintaining a fruity elegant character because of the slate contingent.
Meyer-Näkel's 2016 Neuenahrer Sonnenberg Spätburgunder Grand Cru Dry has a complex bouquet of blackberries, blackcurrants, morello cherries and chocolate with a hint of liquorice. This complex wine has a long mouthfeel with harmonious tannin.

Soil: Greywack, sandstone loam and slate.

Vinification: Harves of the fully ripe grapes end of October 2016 with a yield of 25 hl/ha gentle treatment, ageing in Barrique for about 16 months (70% new oak).

"Light nose, brush of autumn leaf and a smudge of red berries. Perfume on the standing nose. SO perfumed, hauntingly so, on the palate! Wow, the intensity of this - intensity without heavy concentration - is extraordinary. Like a tightly woven, exquisitely made tapestry, fine fine fine. Tannins like layers of paper. Absolutely stunning. Arches through the mouth, shimmering, harp strings and crescendo. Indefatigably long. A thrum of spice vibrating through the spine of the wine. Holds itself with aristocratic bearing."
