Vineyard: The Hohenmorgen is considered the best location in Deidesheim. Situated on the western outskirts of Deidesheim, the Hohenorgen covers an area of almost 3 hectares which are owned by Bassermann-Jordan. The name is derived from the old measure "Morgen" (morning) and describes as field measure as much land as a man can plough with a team in one morning. The "high" part describes the up to seven meter high retaining walls on which the vineyard stands. The vineyard is completely sough-facing.
Wine: The wines planted in 1979 were selectively harvested in several passes. The grapes of each lot were pressed separately and the musts fermented in traditional wooden barrels. When fermentation was complete, the coarse yeast was removed and the wines remained of the fine yeast. The Hohenmorgen was filled in July. The typical Riesling aromas of citrus and apple mate here with pronounced smokiness. The Hohenmorgen has a lot of power, but does not seem heavy at all, but rather dense and concentrated. The wine with a lot od complexity and elegant acidity, which gives it a wonderful length in the finish. This Riesling can be wonderfully combined with shirt-roasted meat, poultry and steamed vegetables. Let the Hohenmorgen mature to its true greatness for at least 5 years in your cellar.
