All stainless steel. Light and pure, it seems to float like a green leaf in a mountain stream. A tiny bit of spritz. Lime ice and green apples. The sweetness of a flute playing a Bach solo. (Written by Tamlyn Currin – JancisRobinson.com)
Silvaner wines are strong, expressive wines with a remarkable well-balanced acidity. They can be stored easily. Their unique character is generated by the terroir: Not only is the pleasant mineral flavour very present in taste. Also the high amount of chalk in the soil leads to a high quantity of extracts in the wine that buffers the acids. The bouquet is very clear with a subtle fruitiness.
The terroir is influenced by the gypsum soil, a sediment of the trias age. Millions of years later, weathering formed the mineral vineyard soil which is clayey and chalky with the ability to keep both water and warmth.
On nose: Discreet fruitiness, mineral flavour, fresh components of apple and quince.
On palate: Vivid, full-bodied, fine mineralogy, harmoniously dry, well-balanced acidity.
