A hot vineyard, more famous for its Grauburgunder. Heger calls this his ‘baroque wine, intellectual’. Deep and dark on the nose, a baritone compared to the tenor of the Winklerberg. Power and presence, driven by structure – enormous dignity and gravitas. A little sweet dark fruit that quickly gives way to roasted meaty base notes. Our single vineyard Achkarrer Schlossberg is an ideal terrain for Pinot Noir. The volcanic soil of this site delivers the minerality that is needed to develop the fruity, intense and complex bouquet.
Tasting note: Ripe and warm bouquet with a gorgeous underlying savouriness. Complex and tightly knit aroma of wild cherries, sloes and cranberry compote, accompanied with spices and district but unobtrusive hint od wood. Rich and fanned-out fruit on the palate. Extraordinarity vivid and saviury. The tight but harmoniously balanced structure of tannins and acidity backs the complex fruit of red current and pickled cherries. Prefoundly multi-layerd personality and full of striking character. Pleasantly unobtrusive and discreetly spicy warmth in the finish. Tremendously rich, fanned-out and very long lasting finish.
Food recommendation: A perfect partner with sophisticated meat dishes, especially with herb based roasts. Equally good with game and various types of savoury cheeses.
