Slate soil and a very steep vineyard. 70% new oak. 2012 was similar to 2009 with small berries, low yield and concentration. Haunting perfume, floats like a jewelled scarf out of the glass. Dark, pure, tense cherry fruit swaddled tightly in tannins. The oak is still flexing a bit of muscle, but the fruit seems even more lustrous against the dry spice. This wine has an aroma of dark cherries, wild blackberries, ripe raspberries and blueberries. The intense fruit is underlined by a soft roasted aroma and violets. It is full bodied and long with an elegant tannin structure.
