Allendorf 2010 Assmannshäuser Höllenberg Spätburgunder dry red wine

Allendorf 2010 Assmannshäuser Höllenberg Spätburgunder dry

Regular price £43.50

The Höllenberg was mentioned as early as 1339 as "an der Heldin". Linguistically, the German word "Hölle" in this context has nothing to do with hell, but rather it refers to raised piles i.e. steep slopes.

Quartzite, Devon and phyllite slate rich soil create the ideal growing conditions for Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) vines, which are up to 60 years old in this vineyard.

Due to botrytis, the harvest of the 2010 vintage was very small. Thanks to a lot of quality assuring manual work, such as selective hand picking in the autumn, Allendorf succeeded in producing an elegant Spätburgunder.

Fermentation of the wine took place in small vats with the grapes still in their skin. The grapes remained there for two weeks until they were gently pressed. The wine maturation process took 22 months.
