Frühburgunder is an old grape variety belonging to the pinot family. That could be declared as an early ripening variety of Pinot Noir. The very small, thick-skinned grapes produce fruity and full-bodied wines with an intense colour. Its velvety taste is characterised by a fine acidity and gentle, delicate tannins.

AHR REGION
The secret of the Ahr wines is based on a perfect microclimate created by geological conditions. The steep, south-facing vineyards provide optimal exposure to the sun. The predominant weathering soils of slate and greywacke are easily heatable and able to store this heat as well. This is how the narrow valley which is protected by the mountains of the Eifel quickly heats up and offers the vines an ideal habitat.

VINIFICATION
The hand picked yield is about 30-35 hl/ha and is matured in barriques (French oak) for 10 months. For the most part, the wine is matured in old barrels (no new oak).

TASTING NOTES
In nose and taste berry fruits like raspberry, huckleberry and morello cherry dominate. The wine also has an elegant floral aroma with hints of cacao bean, as well as a soft tannin structure.
