Becker 2016 St. Paul Spätburgunder Grand Cru dry

Wine: This deep ruby red Spätburgunder (German Pinot Noir) has aromas of wild berries, as well as hints of red pepper and tobacco. Elegant and dense, this dry red wine has an excellent structure and length with well-balanced tannins.

Vineyard: This vineyard is south-located to Weissenburg in Alsace/France. It's named after the former outpost of the monastery there. The soil is based on a large limestone rock with a very low circulation of clayey loamy topsoil.

Winemaking: Grapes were carefully selected by hand, de-stemmed and fermented on the skin. After two to three weeks fermentation in open oak vats, they were gently pressed. Maturation then took place over 18 months in small oak barrels. The wine was bottled without filtration and fining.

This wine has excellent ageing potential.
