Bischel 2019 Appenheimer Spätburgunder Premier Cru dry

Wine: Deep, vibrant ruby red in colour, this Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) reveals aromas of cherry, blackcurrant, tobacco and black tea. On the palate, this dry red wine is concentrated and powerful yet elegant and juicy, with good length and a well defined tannin structure.

Vineyard: The grapes come from Bischel's Pinot Noir vineyards in Appenheim. The calcareous soils of the Eselspfad vineyard impart their distinctive mineral character into the grapes. Located at around 100 metres above sea level, the vineyards are on the lower part of a south-facing slope, which means the soil is warms up quickly and retains the sun's heat. The unique terroir ensures excellent ripeness of the small berried Pinot Noir grapes.

Vinification: The grapes were carefully selected by hand. After de-stemming, the berries ferment with natural yeasts in open vats. After fermentation, the wine matures for 18 months in French oak barrels and is bottled unfiltered.
