Location: The protected core of the Ilbesheimer KALMIT, south-southwest slope, partially terraced. The KALMIT was formed during the subsidence of the Upper Rhine Graben in the Tertiary period. Porous landsnail limestone as a base, and the varying upper soils, such as loess, marl, or loam, make this terrain very special. Kirchberg is an old Ilbesheim single vineyard. In the 1950s, the former wine school maintained an experimental plot for Pinot Blanc due to the excellent conditions and high limestone content.

WINE: Tension-filled Riesling with magnificent elegance. Grown on the extremely limestone-rich soils of our terraced Kirchberg, it shows a chalky, focused mineral character with fresh coolness. Subtle white peach fruit, a hint of warm citrus fruit, and fine saltiness underneath. Riesling with juicy length and great aging potential.

SOIL: Extremely high limestone content, tertiary landsnail limestone.

VINIFICATION: Selective handpicking. Whole-cluster pressing. Spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel with minimal clarification.

AGING POTENTIAL: 10 years and more.

FOOD PAIRING: Seafood in all variations, especially good with oysters or scallops, roast chicken.

SERVING TEMPERATURE: Around 13°C.
