This Frühburgunder has dominate fruit flavours of raspberry, huckleberry and morello cherry. This dry red has elegant floral aromas, as well as hints of cacao bean. Its velvety taste is characterised by a fine acidity and its gentle, delicate tannins.
Frühburgunder is an old grape variety belonging to the Pinot family. It is an early ripening variety of the Pinot Noir grape. The very small, thick-skinned grapes produce fruity and full-bodied wines with an intense colour.
Winery: The secret of the Ahr wines is optimum microclimate created by its geological conditions. The steep south-facing vineyards provide optimal exposure to the sun. The soil there is rich in slate and greywacke, which warms up quickly and an retains the sun's heat. The narrow valley is protected by the mountains of the Eifel, providing the ideal environment for the vines to flourish.
Vinification: Sustainable vineyard management, yield reduction and gentle hand harvesting are the precursors to this wine. The yield is about 30-35hl/ha, and after maceration and gentle pressing, the grapes are fermented with natural yeasts in wooden barrels for 10 months. Primarily in used barrels, so there is no new oak used. After several months of storage on the fine lees, the wine is bottled without filtration.
