Wirsching
Huge oak forests shield the vineyard slopes from the north and east. Together with heat-retaining Gipsum Keuper soil, the perfect micro-climate is created to produce wonderfully expressive wines laden with minerality and refreshing acidity. Wirsching, who are based in Franken, produce exceptional Silvaner, Riesling and Scheurebe wines - some of which are available in the region's traditional Boxbeutel bottles.
The Hans Wirsching winery ranks among the best known and largest privately held wine estates in all of Franconia, with 90 hectares of vineyards.
Now in its 14th generation, the Wirsching family has been making wine since the 1630s. Silvana is the dominant grape variety which is known for being an ideal wine to accompany food thanks to its simple elegance, neutral bouquet and a delicate, mild acidity. The grapes are harvested by hand and processed as gently and carefully as possible. In this way the freshness and liveliness are preserved in the wines, as well as their vintage and grape varietal character in the form of specific aromas and flavour nuances.
Wirsching are a certified member of FAIR'N GREEN. FAIR'N GREEN is a recognised system for sustainable viticulture in Germany, covering areas of environmental protection and social responsibility. Wineries that are certified members uphold the highest standards in sustainable practice, working in harmony with nature. They are rigorously audited every year to ensure these standards are upheld.
"We are Fair'N Green certified because we believe protecting nature is more than just organic farming. Most of what we do in the vineyard is organic, and we steer clear of mineral fertilizers, glyphosate, insecticides, and even copper. For us, sustainability means respecting all resources, especially when it comes to CO2 emissions, as well as ensuring fair treatment of our team. Plus, we always prioritize making the best quality wines possible. It's all about balancing care for the planet with creating amazing products!"
