Bassermann-Jordan 2021 Kalkofen Riesling Grand Cru dry

Regular price £55.80

Vineyard: The the 15th century, a lime kilt stood in this location, which leads to the current name of the camp. Today's vineyard site covers about 5 hectares. Of this area, 1.1ha are allotted to the Bassermann-Jordan vineyard. The oldest part of their vineyard was planted in 1968 and still rooted. From these vines originate the grapes for their "Grosses Gewächs Kalkofen". The vineyard is slightly inclined to the south and is bordered to the north by several sandstone walls.

Wine: The hand-selected grapes of the up to 27 years old Riesling vines were gently pressed and the must sedimented overnight. The 20% of the fermentation took place in ceramic barrels, 20% in 60% in steel tanks, with the vineyard's own yeasts. The bottling took place in July, until then the wine remained in the lees to give it more depth and complexity.
On the nose the Kalkofen shows typical Riesling aromas such as citrus, sone fruit and some chalky notes. The fruit is very fresh, with bright nuances such as peach and fresh apple.
On the Palate with gripping acidity, rather tight with fine minerality.
