Schloss Reinhartshausen 2017 Erbacher Siegelsberg Riesling Grand Cru dry white wine

Schloss Reinhartshausen 2017 Erbacher Siegelsberg Riesling Grand Cru dry

Regular price £35.40

"Struck flint and a gleaming, pewter spine. Cumin, caraway, limes in stone. Devastating minerality driving the wine. Salty, unswerving linearity. Powerful, yet at the same time fills the mouth with a heady fusion of elder flower and May blossom. Long fragrance illuminates the finish." / Tamlyn Currin @ Jancis Robinson / 17.5 points

Schloss Reinhartshausen's Grand Cru site is amongst the best in the world. For the cellar masters of Schloss Reinhartshausen it is both an honour and a pleasure to be able to work with the grapes grown from in these vineyards. The Siegelsberg site extends over the Schlossberg and Marcobrunn sites, in direction of Hattenheim, where it borders on the site Wisselbrunnen. The soil differs from the Marcobrunn, as it has a lesser proportion of clay. The microclimate, with its cooler than average temperature and extraordinarily good air circulation, influences the character of the wine.

The grapes of these Grand Cru are gently pressed by wooden presses, which involves intense manual labour. The fermentation took place in oak barrels, producing around 1,200 litres.

The Siegelsberg is a strong and fruity Riesling. It has discreet woody notes, which underline its peach and apricot flavours. The reduced yields bring out a powerful and elegant wine.

Schloss Reinhartshausen's 2017 Erbacher Siegelsberg Riesling Grand Cru dry is a 'Commended Winner' of the International Wine Challenge 2019.
