The vineyard is located on the middle and upper slopes of a hillside in an area which extends in a south-easterly direction, embracing the historical part of Westhofen. The chain of hills to the west and north of the location protects the vineyards from cold winds. Due to the gradient an exposition of the land, the vineyard enjoy optimum exposure to the sun. The vineyard is classified as VDP Grosse Lage.
Soil: The heart of the Kirchspiel terrain is a composition of marlaceous clay, a large proportion of limestone skeleton remains and a small proportion of weathered chalky clay soil. Limestone is the predominant component of the sub-soil.
Wine: Only shriveled raisin berries are used for this wine, which is usually attacked by the noble rot. The selection of the individual berries is done by hand in the vineyard and will be done again later on the winery. The result is a complex, opulent wine of great density and intensity.
